Fishing Safety Tips
Precautions for sea fishing
Tips for Greenhands in Fishing:
1. Sun Protection
- Apply Sunscreen: To avoid getting sunburned or tanned, make sure to apply a good quality sunscreen. The sun can be very intense, especially at sea.
- Wear Protective Gear: Bring a sun hat, sun-protective jacket, and sunglasses. Combining physical and chemical sun protection methods is the best approach. So just make sure you have all of along with you.
2. Seasickness Medication
- Prepare Seasickness Medication: If it’s your first time fishing at sea, it’s crucial to take seasickness medication beforehand. Without it, you might spend more time feeling nauseous than fishing. Take the medication before departure is the first thing you should do before on boat.
- Emergency Kit: Carry a first aid kit for any unforeseen needs.
- Avoid Orange Juice: Drinking orange juice can increase the likelihood of seasickness. This is a good suggestion from the captain.
3. Extra Clothing
- Warm Clothing: It can get very cold in the middle of the sea, especially with strong winds and waves. Bring a windbreaker and a thick jacket to stay warm and prevent catching a cold.
4. Go with a Companion
- Safety in Numbers: For beginners, it’s best to fish with someone else to ensure safety.
5. Signal Issues
- Weakening Signal: As the boat moves farther out to sea, your mobile signal will weaken and eventually be lost. Make sure to handle any important communications beforehand and inform family or friends that you will be unreachable for a while.
6. Appropriate Footwear
- Avoid High Heels and Wedges: Flat shoes or sports shoes are the best choices. Slippers are not ideal as they can get wet and are not hygienic.
7. Check-In Procedures
- Name on the Booking: Make sure the name on the booking matches your ID.
- Bring ID: Don’t forget to bring your passport or ID card to present at check-in.
